Hello! My name is Dawn. I am a non-traditional student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), where I am studying to become a Social Worker. I minor in both Public Humanities and American Studies.
I too am an adult music learner. I began playing the violin a few years ago in my mid-thirties. It has been both rewarding and challenging. You can listen to my story here.
Stories of Adult Music Leaners is my Public Humanities Minor capstone project. This project allows me to combine my love of people, personal narratives, community, and music into a project that many people can interact with (not just my professors!)
I have two children who also play instruments. My teen plays the violin and dabbles with the piano. My elementary-age child plays the piano and dabbles with the drums. My husband is our family's playlist curator, ensuring our children are exposed to an eclectic assortment of music.
